Climate change, financial crises, geopolitical tensions, economic and social disparities and educational inequities are some of the major challenges facing the world in the 21st century. These growing concerns are symptoms of a world that is out of kilter. It is time to take unequivocal action and address the most pressing problems we are facing in order to find right the balance for our earth. We have to use the wealth and technology of the prosperous nations to instigate change by implementing sustainability strategies at all levels, tackling climate change, reversing environmental degradation, establishing peace and social justice as well as effectively combating infectious diseases for us and for future generations.

The first SUSTAINABLE WORLD CONGRESS will be held in conjunction with the SAVE THE WORLD AWARDS on July 23 and 24, 2009 at the Grafenegg Castle in Lower Austria. The congress is committed to sustainable development, focusing on the root causes and the many links between vital global issues such as environmental degradation, social inequality, financial crisis and climate change.

Learning to live sustainably is not an option anymore, but vital for our long-term survival. The SUSTAINABLE WORLD CONGRESS intends on inspiring people to act in a more sustainable manner in order to make our world a safer, cleaner and more humane environment. The future is not something inevitable and beyond our influence, but rather something we all can be part of in a positive way. Therefore we all bear some responsibility for the future of our planet. Only together can we solve the pressing problems of the 21st century, only together can we meet the sustainability challenge. Let’s change the world for the better.
