Winners of the Save the World Awards 2009 are women who have used their positions at work to influence the world in areas of politics, society and related areas. This award has been in existence since 2000 (first edition was held in Wien), but only in 2009 it secured sponsorship, thanks to an organisation which is headed by Mikhail Gorbachev, the former president of the Soviet Union.
